is named after Commodore William Bainbridge -
the commander of the USS Constitution, better known as "Old Ironsides"

is the seat of Decatur County

is located on the Flint River and is one of two inland ports in Georgia

is nicknamed "Oak City" because of all the trees

had already been settled by Native Americans when Europeans arrived in 1765
